Green Week in Jurilovca gives children the chance to leave the classroom and get close to nature, to animals and to the traditions of a Lipovan village. Everything happens in our yard of about 7,000 m², a safe, clean and lively place.
Children who have visited us talked at home for days about how lovely life in the yard is. That is what we want: for them to leave with hands covered in clay and a story to tell.
Your hosts are Daniela and Marian Sterea, who rebuilt the Jurilovca homestead together with their friends, at the adobe building bee.

What children do during Green Week in Jurilovca
Together with the teacher, we choose the workshops that suit the group. Tap a photo to see it full size.
Meeting the animals
The children feed the alpacas Piciu, Nino and Mexi, the goats Oana, Nadia, Ema and Kozel, the donkeys Rita and Luna and Bamby the pony. They learn how to look after an animal and why Kozel is crazy about cabbage.
Clay modelling
A lump of earth turns into figurines, pots and playful shapes. A calm activity that builds patience and dexterity.
Adobe for the little ones
They mix earth, straw and water, just like our ancestors, and learn how houses were built in the old days. At one workshop, the teachers simply couldn’t get the children out of the mud.

Egg hunt
Among hay bales and rustic little houses, the children follow clues and look for eggs hidden around the yard. A sweet surprise awaits them at the end.
Painting with coloured sand
Every child makes their own picture out of coloured sand. It stimulates imagination and fine motor skills.
Seeds of the house
A game with seeds and grains: the children recognise them, sort them and find out what grows from each one.
Flatbreads they make themselves
The children knead their own flatbread and then eat it. They see real food come out of their own little hands.
Outdoor games
Egg-and-spoon races in teams and obstacle courses among the gardens and the animals. Movement, laughter and team spirit.

Adobe for the little ones, in our yard
We want to pass on the old building techniques, so we designed the adobe workshop for children too. The joy in their eyes when they mix earth with straw and water is hard to describe.

Who will welcome you in the yard
Daniela Sterea
She is just as gentle with animals as she is with children. With more than 14 years of family photo sessions and large groups of children, she handles the little ones with lots of patience.
Marian Sterea
A professional photographer, like Daniela, and the yard’s handyman. He is there at every activity and helps the children get close to the animals.
“A storybook homestead, generously open to the community and the wider public, where the traditional elements of the Dobrujan village are recovered, transformed and constantly enriched through the care of the Sterea family.”Gentilia Zenovei

Frequently asked questions
How much does Green Week cost at Ferma Lipovenesc?
90 lei (about 18 euros) per child. Children with special needs come free of charge. Payment is made at the farm.
How long does the programme last?
About 3 hours. The order of the activities is adapted to the children’s age and the weather.
What ages are the activities suitable for?
For kindergartens, for primary school (preparatory class and grades 1 to 4) and for lower secondary school, grades 5 to 8.
Can parents or other adults come along?
Yes. Kindergarten and primary school teachers and accompanying parents are welcome and can join the workshops alongside the children.
What should the children bring?
Comfortable shoes, clothes that can get dirty (with adobe and clay they really do get dirty) and a bottle of water. If it has rained, rubber boots are the best choice: this is a country yard, not tarmac.
How far ahead do we need to book?
At least one week ahead. Ideally, call us as soon as the school sets the Green Week dates, because the days fill up quickly.
Where is the farm and is there parking?
Ferma Lipovenesc is at Str. 1 Mai nr. 40, in Jurilovca, Tulcea County, easy to reach from Constanța and Tulcea. There is a car park of about 500 m².
What is the difference from Școala Altfel?
The activities are similar, only the period differs: Green Week and Școala Altfel are scheduled by schools at different times of the year. Școala Altfel has its own separate page.
Who takes the photos?
The teachers take the group photos. For a professional photo session with the animals, contact Daniela and Marian Sterea, professional photographers, at +40 723 898 529.
